The first vehicle assembled at the Ulsan plant was the Ford Cortina. After the huge success with the Cortina, Hyundai moved on to developing its own car. The Pony came to market in December 1975. It was the first mass-produced car in South Korea and was the flagship car for Hyundai for many years.
