Bale Breaker Brewing Company
Bale Breaker Brewing Company is located a short 15 minute drive from Yakima in Moxee, WA. Not only do they make beer, but they grow the hops on their own brew farm. The family began their adventure in 1932 with the planting of their first hops.
You can visit the brewery and kick back with a delicious beer. Peruse their list of taps to include IPAs, pale ales and more. Enjoy a picnic with fantastic views. If you don’t want to bring food, oftentimes a food truck will be on site. You can check out their events calendar for who is serving. Their Yakima taproom hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 3:00pm-9:00pm; Friday-Saturday, 12:00pm-9:00pm; Sunday, 12:00pm-6:00pm; Monday-closed.
Yakima Sportsman State Park
The Yakima Sportsman State Park is located a bit southeast of the city of Yakima at 904 University Parkway. The 266-acre camping park is known as an oasis in the desert. It was created to highlight game management and the preservation of natural resources. The park contains over 130 species of birds, perfect for lots of wildlife watching. You can find red-winged blackbirds, wood ducks, herons and hawks. The fishing park has ponds and lakes stocked with rainbow trout, bass, catfish and salmon and ready for juvenile fishing, with adult fishing permitted in the river. The park amenities include 5 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, fishing, bird watching, horseshoes, a playground and volleyball. Plus, you can attend a Juan A. Alvarez Living Classroom in the park with a short trail and pier that enters a wetland area. You will have the opportunity to see what a living, working wetland looks like.
If you plan on staying overnight at the Yakima Sportsman State Park, you have 33 standard campsites and 37 utility campsites available. The utility sites can accommodate 60-foot RVs. 15, 30 and 50 amp electrical service with water and sewer are available. The sites are accessible to those with disabilities and feature concrete patios and fire pits.
Capitol Theatre
Right here in downtown Yakima, you will find the Capitol Theatre, providing performing arts and entertainment in central Washington. The original theatre was built in 1920, but mostly burned to the ground in 1975. Fortunately, the Capitol Theatre Committee raised funds to restore the building and reopened in 1978. While owned by the City of Yakima, the theatre is operated by the Committee and offers an average of 175 events each year.
The main stage seats 1,500 offering plays, lectures, concerts and musicals. Some events include Broadway’s Tony Award-Winning musical Hairspray, the musical Jersey Boys and an evening of dance with Star Dust.
