Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company began in 1947 in South Korea. The automotive division was added in 1967. Roughly translated, the word Hyundai means modernity. Now, what does modernity mean? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, it is defined as “the quality or state of being or appearing to be modern.”
 
 
 

How Do You Properly Pronounce Hyundai?

How to say Hyundai can depend on where and who you are. For the Korean original genuine pronunciation of the name, it sounds like Heyun-Day. Those in England pronounce Hyundai as High-Un-Die.
