How Do I Use The Power Liftgate On The Hyundai Santa Fe?

You’re walking back to your vehicle with a baby in one hand and a few bags in the other. Now you realize that you won’t be able to open the trunk. You knew you should have brought that shopping cart with you. Then you remember the option on your new Hyundai Santa Fe, a way to open the trunk when your hands are full. When the Smart Liftgate is enabled, the back will open without any effort.

When the vehicle is locked and you have the smart key in your possession, stand within three feet of the rear bumper for more than three seconds. The hazard lights will flash, the chime will sound six times and the smart liftgate will open. Voilà!

1. Select Setup from the navigation screen.
2. Select Vehicle.
3. Select Door.
4. Select Smart Liftgate.
5. Select the checkbox to enable it.

The liftgate will operate when you’re SUV is on or off, but it must be in park for it to work.

Main control button: From the driver’s seat you can use the power liftgate main control button located to the left of the steering column. Press and hold the button for one second to open the liftgate. To close it, press and hold the button until it closes completely.

Smart key: Press and hold the liftgate open/close button for one second to open the liftgate. If you need to stop the liftgate movement, press the button on the smart key.

Power liftgate open switch: From the rear of the vehicle, you can press the power liftgate open switch located in the center of the liftgate. The close switch inside the liftgate can be used to close it.

You can adjust the lift height of the hands-free power liftgate. If you have a place with a low ceiling such as a garage, you can adjust how high up the liftgate will go. The program has four preset opening heights. You can also set up a custom height.

How to Program the Height of the Liftgate
1. Select Setup from the navigation screen.
2. Select Vehicle.
3. Select Door.
4. Select Power Liftgate Opening Height.
5. Select the opening height desired or select Customer User Height Setting.
6. To custom set, position the liftgate manually to the height you want.
7. Press and hold the power liftgate open/close button located inside the liftgate for more than three seconds. After you hear two beeps, use the button to close the liftgate.

You can adjust how fast or slow the liftgate opens. This comes in handy if you want a slower liftgate when children are around, yet faster when carrying a heavy load. You have the option of normal or fast.

How to Program the Speed of the Liftgate
1. Select Setup from the navigation screen.
2. Select Vehicle.
3. Select Door.
4. Select Power Liftgate Opening Speed.
5. Select fast or normal.
