Fun Activities To Do This Winter In Yakima
Just because it’s cold outside, doesn’t mean that the activities around Yakima freeze up and shut down. Just the opposite! The cold weather brings out lots to do around town. Here are a few of our favorites.
Union Gap Corn Maze And Pumpkin Patch
Only a few minutes’ drive down from Yakima in Union Gap, you will find the Union Gap Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch. Enjoy a family-friendly 12 acre maze with the whole crew. Want to include a little Halloween scare? The large corn maze is haunted Wednesday-Saturday beginning at 7:00pm. There lots to do for everyone including hay rides and the popular apple cannons and pumpkin chucker.
You can make a night of it. The barn offers food and drinks, including corn dogs, pretzels and hotdogs. And you can keep warm with the hot cocoa. Admission is good for all day. The entrance fee is $10 for ages three and up. Bring a large group and get $1.00 off for groups of 20 or more.
Madd Hatter’s Haunt
Join in the Halloween fun with the Madd Hatter’s Haunt haunted house. Lurking around every corner will be, well, scary stuff. This year’s theme is the Ringmaster’s Circus. So step right up now through the end of the month. But be ready to scream and scream some more. We hear there will be clowns, lots and lots of clowns. Enter if you dare.
The cost is $13 per person, two for $25. VIP Fast Pass is available for $18, two for $35.
Capitol Theatre
Coming soon! Make plans now for some awesome musicals coming your way in November. Broadways’ Tony award-winning musical Hairspray will be in town November 12-13, 2021. You will laugh and you may cry. Catch an evening or matinee show. Ticket prices start at $20. After you have jived with a musical, begin the winter season with Warren Miller’s 72nd annual film, “Winter Starts Now” with a showing in Yakima on November 17th. This year’s road trip will take you through the Rocky Mountains, New England and up the Alaska coast. Ticket cost is $17 and the only show will be at 7:30pm.
Thanksgiving In Wine Country
What a great way to end the Thanksgiving weekend. After you have finished with the big turkey dinner, tour through wine country and enjoy the many tastes of the holiday season. Yakima Valley wineries will be serving up a weekend of wine tasting, pairing with snacks and chocolates. You will be able to talk with the makers and find a wine that is perfect for your holiday dinners. At the same time, you can do some holiday shopping, including craft events. Usually the wineries are open 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Lighted Farm Implement Parade
The oldest farm implement parade in the nation happens in nearby Sunnyside, Washington on December 4, 2021. The event was voted one of the top 10 lighted parades in the United States by A&E TV and has also been featured on the Travel Channel and Xtreme Christmas. The parade pays tribute to the area’s agricultural heritage by featuring combines, tractors and antique farm equipment. The implements will be decorated with thousands of Christmas lights. Want to take part in the festivities? You have until November 22nd to register.
Along with the parade, the weekend is filled with an array of festivities.
